1963 Dallas Cowboys

1963 Sports Illustrated

1963 Sports Illustrated got it WRONG!

The Cowboys took a step back in 1963.  Don Meredith became the Cowboys starting QB and despite his performance, the Cowboys lost their first 4 games of the 1963 season.  Instead of improving on the previous year the Cowboys actually posted a worse record by winning only 4 games and loosing 10. The Cowboys were having success on offense but the defense was costing them most every game. Don Perkins continued to be the Cowboys lone offensive star and Bob Lilly started to make a lot of noise on Defense. The Cowboys selected Lee Roy Jordan with their first pick in the 1963 NFL draft and he turned out to be a great player for the Cowboys over the next 15 years but the other picks provided little help for the young Dallas Cowboys.
